Glad I opened up that box.

Shaft and Key40 viewsFinally off! Also had to work that key with a punch. It had to come out for the assembly to come out as the key would not clear the bottom seal.
The steering rod bearing is still stuck in there though.

Steering28 viewsWhen the retaining nut was removed. Out came water, followed by gear oil. Must have been close to a quart altogether.
The gasket and seals must be pretty good. I've had the tractor 6 years now. PO had it for at least 10. He kept it outside all the time.

In Deep30 viewsNever thought I would ever get in 'this deep' into another tractor project.
I just want to paint this thing and get it back together.
But, I also want to do it right. The steering is very sloppy, so off comes the front axle.

Pilot Shaft Bushing26 viewsPulled the axle today to get a better look at the steering.
Found the pilot shaft bushing wore in an oval shape.
The shaft just flops around in there. Could attribute to some of the play in the steering.
