Sloppy Steering45 viewsWell I found the source of the sloppy steering.
Glad I opened up that box.EZ
TempHub 47 viewsI made up this temporary hub to install a set of small rears so as to move tractor around shop while working on it.EZ

Pilot Shaft Bushing26 viewsPulled the axle today to get a better look at the steering.
Found the pilot shaft bushing wore in an oval shape.
The shaft just flops around in there. Could attribute to some of the play in the steering. EZ

In Deep30 viewsNever thought I would ever get in 'this deep' into another tractor project.
I just want to paint this thing and get it back together.
But, I also want to do it right. The steering is very sloppy, so off comes the front axle.
EZ

Front axle26 viewsNever thought I'd ever pull another front axle, but there it is, on the floor.EZ
Steering28 viewsWhen the retaining nut was removed. Out came water, followed by gear oil. Must have been close to a quart altogether.
The gasket and seals must be pretty good. I've had the tractor 6 years now. PO had it for at least 10. He kept it outside all the time.EZ
Gear31 viewsThe gear looks OK. The bearing is a bit floppy and rusty.EZ
Steering assembly39 viewsNice to see it finally off.EZ
Steering Arm36 viewsIt took about 5 days, and all these tools, alot of patience, and no cuss words. Well maybe 1 or 2. EZ
Shaft and Key40 viewsFinally off! Also had to work that key with a punch. It had to come out for the assembly to come out as the key would not clear the bottom seal.
The steering rod bearing is still stuck in there though.EZ

2150 Red39 viewsFinally got to the point that painting could be done. Really like the HVLP system.
Did this in a makeshift paintbooth, woked real nice. EZ
Epoxy Primer34 viewsFirst time using the HVLP system gun and I may have put too much epoxy primer on.
That gun sure layed it down nice though.EZ
Etch primer36 viewsThe etch primer came out of rattle cans, really sticks good to clean metal.EZ

Back on her feet.39 viewsGradually progressing. Put her back on her feet today.
