New Framing for Doors are going in50 viewsLooked right, felt right but had to be redone. The shop has undergone some major upheavals and the corner isn't exactly square like it once was. At least now the rough opening is square and the wall insert is square... the fillers.. oh well.Rudi

New Pine Clad Doors44 viewsNew doors, 1-1/2" rigid foam insulation in a 2" x 2" frame. 27" x 27" thermopane was supposed to go in, but all 3 recycled windows cracked. New 1/8" glass will have to do. $50.00 for 2 panes.. ouch!Rudi

Trusses Almost Done62 viewsAll 16 of the trusses are almost done. This is the first 24 foot section of the trusses for the pole barn and new shop roof. You can see the end that will sit on the exterior wall (by the green tarp), with knee wall frame section that will be sitting on the beam and the loose tails sitting on the roof. The loose tails will have another 8 feet gusseted into them with an end plate and foot plate to anchor to the existing roof. Rudi

3 Musketeers Helping With The Trusses67 viewsFrom left to right, my good friend Roger Maillet, his chum Merv and my son Duane.Rudi

West Wall57 viewsThe West Wall is almost finished sheathing, just the peak of the gable left to sheath. These are the recycled 4'-0" x 10'-0" sheets of Douglas Fir that are from billboard sign faces. Already, the shop is about 10% warmer. The left over paper etc., will probably peel off over the winter.. and I will just have a bit of waste to pick up.Rudi

Getting Dark49 viewsIt was a cold cold day.. clear but cold. -8 C but with the wind chill felt like -20. Good thing I don't have to stand outside watching the Santa Claus Parade downtown.. I get to play in a nice warm shop tonight making the ladders.Rudi

North Wall43 viewsThis is the coldest wall, and also the wall with the most moisture damage from snow buildup and rain shedding onto the bottom of the wall. That is all being addressed by the 45 mil and thicker rubber dams that I am placing around the building. This will be a standard procedure now on all of my exterior structures.Rudi
South Wall51 viewsThis will be the warmest wall of them all. With an almost directly southern exposure, this area is warm even on the coldest days. With 80 square feet of thermopane, this should help keep the pole barn warm and almost warm enough to work without extra heat. You can see the pad I build with the Cat D2C the other day for storing my implements that do not fit inside the pole barn.

West Wall49 viewsA bitterly cold day up on that ladder. Sun is setting and the wind is getting stronger.Rudi

All The Trusses Are Up!45 viewsA bit of snow, it was a little warmer today, but now at about 1700 hrs or 5pm, the temp has dropped again from around 0 to -4C. Hopefully tomorrow more strapping will be up and we will have made the ladders and put up a few sheets on the roof..Rudi
Installing The First Few Rows Of Strapping39 viewsAlde is nailing up the first row of strapping onto the trusses. And yes he is my neighbour and for those of you who were at the original CubFest Northeast back in 2004, Alde was there with his son Gerry. Alde owns my Father-in-laws God-Father's 56 Cub that Jethro was a donor for.Rudi

Right After Coffee Break54 viewsWe put up the last 2 trusses. It is slowly coming together.

All 16 Trusses On the Roof45 viewsAll of them are now nailed into place. On the West Gable, I just have to build the gable end box, gable end wall and ladders. Then, once that is sheathed in and the roof done, we should be weathertight pretty much.Rudi

All 16 Trusses On the Roof40 viewsFinally, this is beginning to look like we might be closed in before Christmas.. Rudi
Just Before Coffee Break40 viewsManaged to get the rest of the trusses in place except for the last two. Ran out of pre-cut 22-1/2" Header Blocks. Go to Timmy's get warm, cut the last two and poof we will have em all up!
Not too shabby considering we started this afternoon at about 1345hrs or 1:45 PM.Rudi

Just About Done in time for Coffee.42 viewsWe started about 1:45PM and making good progress. Had to put a temp foot on the roof, but now all the trusses are level and just about finished. All that will be left will be adjusting for spacing as we go up the roof with the strapping before the sheathing goes on.Rudi
